Alice P. Pettibon

Alice P. Pettibon, 90, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Culpepper Place in Nevada. She was born on July 11, 1918, in Johnstown, Mo., to Joseph Mize Kash and Nannie Aria Coleman Kash. She married Homer D. Pettibon on Nov. 27, 1941, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2002.

Alice grew up in Johnstown, Mo., and graduated from high school there. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kan. Alice taught school for 40 years in Pleasant Valley, Mo., Bronaugh, Walker and Nevada, until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the Church of Christ and volunteered at the We Care Center operated by the church. Alice also volunteered at the gift shop at Nevada Regional Medical Center for several years, and was a past member of the Nevada Garden Club.

Survivors include one son, Joe Pettibon and his wife Nancy, Flemington, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Pettibon, Flemington, Mo.; three grandchildren, John Pettibon, Nevada, Wesley Pettibon, Springfield, Mo., and Melissa Rider and her husband Jay, Marshfield, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Doug on June 16, 2007; one brother, Chester Kash, and one sister, Levon Mealey.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Church of Christ in Nevada, with Brother Danny Fox officiating. Interment will be in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Mo. Friends may call now and until 11:30 a.m., on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
