Hume boys' and girls' basketball split at Lakeland tournament

The Hume Hornets boys' and girls' basketball teams recently competed in the Lakeland tournament with mixed results.

On the boys' side, Hume was able to take a 63-56 victory over Hermitage. Four Hornets broke into double figures in the game, led by Cameron Hinton and Cody Franklin with 16, followed closely by Ryan Austin with 13 and Eric Pruitt with 10.

The Hornets shot well from the field, sinking 53 percent of their field goals, while also having a strong night from the free-throw night. In 19 attempts on the night, Hume was able to convert 15 free throws and picked up a solid total of 13 steals as well.

On the girls- side, second-seeded Fairplay knocked off the Lady Hornets by a final score of 43-32. Jamee Fillpot led the offensive effort for Hume, finishing out the night as the only Lady Hornets player in double figures with 10 points.

Two players finished out the night with double digit rebound totals, led by Makena Thompson with 11, followed closely by Katie Orear with 10. For Fairplay, Cheyenne Ships was the offensive star of the game, finishing out the night with 13 points. "Fairplay was the second seed. I believe we played them well," head coach Delanya Thompson said.
