Thursday, January 22, 2009

The Hume Hornets and Lady Hornets each added a strong home victory to their records recently.

On Monday night, the Lady Hornets took on Miami and had a couple of very strong individual performances in a dominant victory. Katie Orear nearly beat the Lady Eagles on her own as she put up 30 points in the contest -- just one short of Miami's team total of 31.

Jamee Fillpot broke into double digits as well, finishing out the night with 10 in the Lady Hornets' 61-31 victory. Makena Thompson led the rebounding effort for Hume with 14, followed closely by Orear with 12.

Fillpot put up a very strong performance in the game on the defensive end as well with seven of the Lady Hornets' 21 steals. "The girls took a little while to get started, but once they did, they played very well," head coach Delanya Thompson said of the performance on the night.

On the boys' side, the Hornets found themselves in a much more closely contested battle against the Eagles of Miami Tuesday night. The Hornets had two players breaking into double figures in the game, led by Ryan Austin with 13 points. Andy Yarick wasn't far off that total, as he finished the night with 11.

Austin also led the Hornets with seven rebounds and five assists in the contest. The Hornets did not have a strong effort from the free-throw line in the game, shooting just 56 percent.

Hume's boys played in a JV contest as well on the night, taking another victory over the Eagles by a final score of 57-37.
