Election: McCaffree, Ellis win R-5 seats, road taxes pass

The results of last night's Vernon County elections held few surprises; Voters OK'd road taxes in many townships, and new faces will take seats on city councils and school boards throughout the county. Voter turnout was very light in sharp contrast to the heavy voter turnout for the presidential election in November.

In the Nevada R-5 school board race, Mike McCaffree and Chris Ellis gleaned the most votes, with Ellis garnering 537 votes and Mike McCaffree, 602; Travis K. Ellis, 183; Andy Remington, 353; and Tim Moore, 268.

The two seats up for election on the Nevada council went to Jayne Novak, with 361 votes; and Seth Barrett, 387.

School District No. 7 of Vernon County Rick Piper, 106; David Reedy, 106; Jeremy S. Weaver, 115.

Northeast Vernon County R-1 school board Robert Weisensee, 36; Kevin Gilpin, 33; Bill Alexander, 56; David Bruce, 62; Andy Hays, 113; Dennis Vantellman, 134.

Sheldon R-8 school board Jerod L. Lamb, 70; Julie Casey, 82; Michelle Claflin, 101. City of Sheldon Mayor Joshua L. Lamb, 44; Rob Sewell, 68. City of Sheldon Alderman At-Large Robert R. Moran, 56; Benny Abbott, 51.

Final tallies for candidates in the Hume and El Dorado Springs school districts were not available at press time Tuesday because votes from counties other than Vernon County were not available.

I guess people didn' think that one real-estate person was as qualified as he thought he was. There's two agencies that their arm's ought to be wore out PATTING themselves on the BACK every other week in the paper. Why do they BRAG on themselves all time?

I thought all of the guys that ran were real nice. I guess your referring to Andy. I know his whole family is very community oriented and I've always thought he was a good guy. Besides that his family doesn't draw a check from the district like a lot of the other board members do.

Nevada was lucky to have five qualified choices for these two positions. I would like to thank all of these gentlemen for giving the people a group of candidates of which any would have done a fantastic job on our school board!

What were the QUALIFICATIONS they had to meet before they could run? Besides living in the school district.

In my opinion what makes them well qualified is that they all seemed, by their answers in the paper and the forum that was held at the school, to be well informed and excited about being on the board. Also I think that people who take the time to run for public office don't deserve to be belittled by those of us who don't run. I was always told if I couldn't say something nice then don't say anything at all. You, no more boom, were obviously never taught that!!! )=

LADY I fought for this country and I"LL SAY WHAT AND WHEN I WANT TO!!!!!!! If I don't AGREE or LIKE SOMETHING I"M GOING TO SAY WHAT I THINK!! My PARENTS WERE THE BEST!!! Was taught to say what I think, NOT what YOU want to HEAR. My PARENTS aren't around anymore to defend themselves, BUT BY GOD LADY I AM!! If the paper don't like my COMMENTS they can TAKE them off or TELL me not to COMMENT any more, SO IF YOU DON"T LIKE MY COMMENTS DON"T READ THEM!!

What Planet do you live on, and did your parents really do a good job with you? I agree with ccmom, we should be happy that there are people willing to serve. Maybe you should have filed and run for the postion sounds like you know it all. We'll I guess your full of boom boom.
