Jayhawk-Linn girls take Pioneer League championship

LaCYGNE, Kan. -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls dominated the Pioneer League Track Meet Thursday, winning eight events and 22 medals and scoring 146 1/2 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Central Heights, which had 104 points.

Jayhawk boys tied for second with Wellsville with 106 points. Osawatomie was the winner with 170.

Morgan Eastwood won both hurdles races for the girls. She won the 100 meters in 15.86 seconds and the 300's in 47.37. Meriel Long was also a double winner, taking the 800 meters in 2:37.9. and the 1,600 in 5:52.

Taylor Dawson won long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 1 inch. Cassie Rockers took triple jump at 32 feet, 10 inches. The 4x100-meter relay team ran a 52.53 while the 4x400 team turned in a 4:17.56. in winning.

Jayhawk-Linn picked up two second-place medals. Dawson ran the 400 meters in 1:04.85 and Chelsea Beckman threw the discus 106' 4 1/2".

Amory Miller finished third in javelin at 98' 0 1/2" and in the 110 hurdles in 18.12. Emma Hargrove was third in triple jump with an effort of 28' 9". Shelby Krull took third in pole vault at 8 feet even and in the 400 in 1:09.35. Beckman was third in the 200 meters in 28.38.

Fourth-place results were Leah Wood's 92' 5" effort in discus and Julia Schulz's 1:11.23 in the 400. Hargrove tied for fifth in pole vault, clearing 7 feet. Katie George was fifth in the 110 hurdles in 18.58. Rockers was fifth in the 100 meters in 13.41. Beckman's sixth-place time of 13.50 in the 100 meters rounds out Jayhawk-Linn's results.

Steven Mann won two events for Jayhawk boys. He took the long jump at 23' 4" and the triple jump at 43' 8". Snyder won the 100 hurdles in 15.59 and the 300's in 39.36. Jayhawk-Linn also won the 4x400-meter relay in 3:33.52.

Second-place results were recorded by Nate McCabon in pole vault at 11 feet, Ryan Sutherland in the 400 meters in 53.58 and the 4x100 relay team in 44.69.

Coming in third were Matt Hardman in javelin at 146' 9 1/2" and long jump at 18' 6", Mann in the 100 meters in 11.24 and Dylon Thyer in the 200 in 23.14.

Jayhawk-Linn didn't have any fourth-place finishers. Fifth-place marks came from Cody Hall in discus at 118' 6 1/2", Trever LaPorte in high jump at 5' 2" and Thyer in the 100 in 11.65. The sixth-place results were a 35' 1" mark by Blake Johanning in triple jump and an 11:44 by Raymer in the 3,200 meters.

Both Jayhawk-Linn track squads will be in Marion for the Class 3A Regional Meet next Friday.
