Walter Lee Pruitt, 86, Nevada, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Centerpoint Hospital, Independence, Mo., following a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., to Charles Leo Pruitt and Dora Marie Alflen Pruitt. He was married March 17, 1976, in Nevada, to Opal Louise Schonewetter.

Mr. Pruitt moved to Nevada, from the Kansas City area around 1949 and spent the remainder of his life here. For the past year Walter and his wife have resided at the Golden Living Center in Independence. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada, and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 855 in Nevada.

Survivors include his wife Opal Louise Pruitt, Independence; one brother, Lawrence Pruitt, Kansas City, Mo.; three nieces, Lois Roberson, Karen Smith, and Connie Andreasen, all of Kansas City, Mo.; three nephews, Gregory Pruitt, Raymore, Mo., Terry Pruitt, Grandview, Mo., and Jeffrey Pruitt, Lee's Summit, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Pruitt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Justin Hoye officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday morning between 10 and 11 a.m., prior to the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, in care of the funeral home.
