Local authors to have booth on the Square

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Bushwhacker Days on the Square will have a special attraction for history buffs this year. Local authors, Ellen Gray Massey and Larry Wood will have their books on display.

This will be a great time to meet the authors, ask them questions about writing, history and putting the two together in a fiction format.

Massey will be present to sign books and talk to her fans. She is well-known throughout southwest Missouri for her Civil War books including "Brothers, Blue and Gray," "Her Enemies, Blue and Gray," "Borderland Homecoming," and "The Burnt District."

Larry Wood is from Joplin and has written several books about the struggle between Missouri and Kansas.

The booth is sponsored by Goldminds Publishing Company, LLC. Steven A. Anderson, editor of Goldminds Publishing Company, will be on hand to offer his support of these fine authors, and take in the sights and sounds of how Vernon County brings history to life during our annual Bushwhacker Days celebrations.

"I have known Ellen and Larry for several years, and being that they are local authors with regional expertise, they were perfect for Goldminds," Anderson said.

"Ellen is a treasure to the Ozarks and I am committed to making sure her new work keeps getting published," he added.

About the other author, Anderson said, "Larry Wood has been an authority on many historical subjects related to Missouri and the Ozarks, and when he decided to take a crack at fiction I thought his novel fit very well into our program. Readers interested in the Civil War or Bushwhacker history will enjoy all of Ellen and Larry's books."

"I started acquiring books for Goldminds in 2006. I decided to publish both fiction and nonfiction with regional interest, and took on several titles of each to test the market."

Since 2007, Goldminds has published 15 titles, fiction and non-fiction, with four more non-fiction books scheduled to be published by 2010. For updates on books by Massey and Wood, check out Goldminds Web site, www.goldmindspub.com.
