Red Sox drop opening game at Carl Junction tournament

Saturday, June 13, 2009

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Nevada Red Sox AAA squad got their trip to the Carl Junction tournament started with a tough loss Thursday evening.

The Red Sox opened the tournament by squaring off against Galena, Kan., and came up short as Galena took the victory by a final score of 3-0, despite a very strong effort by starting pitcher Ron Johnson. "Ron Johnson pitched a great game; we just didn't hit," Red Sox Assistant Coach Jason Irwin said.

Johnson even helped out his own cause as the only member of the entire Red Sox lineup to record a hit on the day.

The Red Sox were scheduled to be in action again today as they continued their run in the tournament, facing Webb City -- a team the Red Sox have already beaten once this season. That game was set to start at 10:30 a.m., at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin.
