Thank You Vernon County

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Dear Editor:

The 64th annual Vernon County Youth Fair has come and gone. It was a great success.

People in Vernon County are very kind and generous to the fair. I got to wondering why they are like that, so I spent time reading minutes from past board meetings, 1940s through the present, this week and found a simple answer. People in Vernon County care about young people getting the right start in life.

There have been many people who served on the fair board and many committees in the last 64 years. The founders of our fair had the foresight to start a project to help showcase youth in life learning experiences, which teaches commitment to a project, respect for others, and pride in their accomplishments. I think their goals are still being accomplished.

The fair board would like to thank you for your support of the fair. Thank you to all the club leaders, committee people, cooks, pie bakers, extension office people, sales staff, buyers, volunteers, radio, newspaper, parents, and supporters. You are doing something great for the young people of this county.

The fair grounds are quiet again -- no bawling calves, squealing pigs, crowing roosters, children having fun or is it? I think I hear them already getting ready for next year's fair in July 2010. Thank You Vernon County.
