Boot Block: Local firemen work for a cure
Nevada Firefighters International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3031 will be out in force, collecting donations in a boot block fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association again this year.
"We are hoping for another good year," said Local President Kelly Wingert.
Local 3031 raised more than $3,500 for MDA last year, ranking them 20th in Missouri among other IAFF Locals, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
"We raised more than places like North Kansas City and Grandview," stated Wingert, "That says a lot about the people of Nevada and Vernon county. We couldn't do this without the generosity of the folks who live here."
The IAFF has raised more the $275 million nationally for MDA since 1954. The money raised not only goes towards finding a cure for 40 neuromuscular diseases, but also funds summer camps, public health education, and other programs.
