The Nevada Lady Tigers tennis team added yet another strong performance to their record as they hosted Mount Vernon Friday.

Mount Vernon struggled from the start of the match and never really recovered as the Lady Tigers dominated throughout the match. After seeing the Lady Tigers cruise through most of the match, Mount Vernon salvaged just one singles victory and one doubles victory, ultimately falling 7-2.

Daven Smith and Leah Creasy each made quick work of their opponents to start off the day for the Lady Tigers, dispatching Kendra Jones and Alyssa Welmoral 8-2 and 8-1, respectively. Katlyn Short showed similar dominance in the No. 3 singles match, beating Kara Trotter by a score of 8-3.

The fourth and fifth singles matches were slightly closer, but the Lady Tigers were still able to come out on top fairly easily as Caitlin Wagner and Ashley McKinley each picked up 8-4 victories.

Mount Vernon was able to pick up their only varsity singles victory of the dual in the final match of the day as Paige McCoy fought her way to an 8-4 victory over Katie Brauer. Nevada's luck continued in doubles competition as they took two of three matches.

The only doubles win for Mount Vernon came in the No. 2 match when Kara and Karly Trotter defeated Short and Brauer 8-4.

The Lady Tigers enjoyed similar success in JV competition as well, taking two of the three matches that were played.

Following that match, the Lady Tigers headed to the Harrisonville tournament on Saturday and showed another very strong performance. On their way to taking second in overall team points, the Lady Tigers saw three of their players take home top-three finishes.

Smith and Short took first place in doubles competition while freshman Regan Kimbrough brought home third in singles.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to be in action again today as they host the Lady Tigers of Lamar.
