Letter to the Editor

Nevada Lady Tigers golf team

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Dear Editor:

I wish to commend Coach Brian Leonard on a fantastic 2009 Nevada Lady Tiger golf season. He was able to motivate and focus his team, while providing a positive influence in the Nevada community.

He was able to take a group of fine young women, and produce a successful Nevada Lady Tiger golf season.

The Lady Tigers entered 2009 grieving the loss of teammate Emily Ann DeBrine and Coach Brian Leonard provided support, overcame adversity, and united his team.

The 2009 Nevada Lady Tiger Golf Team took second place in the district tournament, and qualified three members of the team for the state tournament. Emmaly Ellis, Melea Galimberto, and Mariah Jones will represent Nevada at the state competition, in Sedalia.

I had the personal honor of attending the district tournament, in Marshfield. Coach Leonard displayed discipline, determination, and compassion that was impressive. He knew how to talk to the team...and how to listen. He was able to deal with the multiple issues that teenagers bring to the table, with authority, dignity, and grace.

I am thankful that Brian Leonard afforded me the opportunity to participate in the 2009 season, including the district tournament festivities. I was able to fulfill a promise made to my daughter, Emily Ann DeBrine. She was a member of the NHS Lady Tigers Golf Team for two seasons. Emily laughed, she grew, and she learned valuable life lessons from Coach Leonard. I am thankful that he was such a positive mentor to my daughter.

The success of the 2009 Lady Tiger golf season is a direct reflection of Brian Leonard's ability to inspire others. He volunteers his time and energy towards positively impacting Nevada, and he optimistically looks toward the future.

May we all take note, and heed his example. Thank you coach. Your hard work, commitment, and dedication are truly appreciated and admired!

Sincerely,

Melissa LaNear
