Cottey's third annual hunger banquet Nov. 7

Friday, October 30, 2009

Cottey College's Learning Through Serving: Guatemala group will host its third annual Hunger Banquet on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. This year, it will be held in the Service Edge Café in the lower level of the Bowman Building.

Forty percent of the people on our planet -- more than 2.5 million -- now live in poverty, struggling to survive on less than $2 a day. A Hunger Banquet allows others to step into the world where food is often scarce and difficult decisions have to be made every day. Guests draw tickets at random that assign them each to either a high-, middle-, or low-income tier and receive a corresponding meal. Those attending will learn about global and local hunger and poverty issues. Door prizes will be given away during the course of the evening as well.

Proceeds from the Hunger Banquet will support the Friends of Peace Scholarship to assist Guatemalan girls to attend Cottey. Suggested donation for the Hunger Banquet is $5 for adults, $1 for students, and children under age 7 are free.

The Bowman Building is located at 2015 N. West Street and is just northwest of the YMCA. Parking is available in the rear of the building.
