Red Card bargains back for the second year

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

For the second year, several Nevada retailers are uniting to raise funds for a worthwhile local cause. Shoppers may once again purchase a "Red Card" from any of 11 participating retailers for a one-time cost of $10. The entire $10 cost is donated, and this year the proceeds will go to the scholarship portion of the Cottey College "A Defining Moment" campaign.

Dana Cavener of Cavener's Library and Office Supplies said the fact that "Cottey has been a part of our community for 125 years," had some bearing on the decision to make them this year's recipient. The Salvation Army was given the $800 raised last year.

Each of the 11 participating retailers will offer discounts on merchandise or services throughout the month of December, many of them changing weekly. Discounts will be posted in each individual store or shoppers may follow the Nevada Red Card on Twitter to keep up with the changing bargains!

Local Nevada businesses are known for their generosity to local organizations and are pleased to offer the community the opportunity to partner with local merchants and help them in supporting higher education for our youth. The group of merchants takes pride in doing this. "We try and do it without spending a lot of money," said Cavener, "and we're proud of the fact that we do this on our own."

Red Cards have been selling well since Nov. 1 and can be purchased from participating retailers including: Belle Rose Floral and Gift, Compute This, Belles and Beaus, Cavener's Library & Office Supplies, Interior Motives, Davisons Shoes, Verco Sporting Goods, Nine Patch Quilts, Hertzberg Furniture/Perfect Touch, Pat's Designs, May's Floral and Gifts and Rinehart Jewelry.
