Howard Rice

Howard Rice, 87, formerly of Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 13, 1932, in Sheldon, to Earl August Rice and Leona May Moore Rice. He married Edna Mae Gordon on Sept. 15, 1940, in Bronaugh, Mo., and she survives of Nevada.

Howard was born and reared in Sheldon and spent most all of his life in this area. He made his living as a farmer for a lifetime. He was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church and of the Sheldon Lions Club.

Survivors in addition to his wife Edna Mae include one son, Ed Rice, Sheldon; one daughter, Shirley Shellhorn, Independence, Mo.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clinton Rice, Grandview, Mo., and Marvin Rice, Butler, Mo.. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Greg Rice, three sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with the Rev. Lynn Quist officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at the funeral home.
