Grover G. Phillips Sr., 89, Harwood, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Christian Healthcare in Nevada. He was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Walker, to Grover Cleveland Phillips and Myrtle Vada Dickey Phillips. He married Nina Phelps Baber on March 31, 1945, in Clarksdale, Miss., and she survives of the home.

Grover was a member of the El Dorado Springs, Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II from May 7, 1942, through Jan. 20, 1946. Following the service, he farmed south of Harwood most of his life. He was a member of the Walker Masonic Lodge No. 605.

Survivors in addition to his wife Nina, include one son, Grover G. Phillips Jr. and his wife Connie, Andover, Kan.; one daughter, Cynthia Diane Phillips, Walker; and also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

Funeral and Masonic services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Lawrence Cripps officiating and Masonic Services immediately following the service. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park Nevada.
