Jack Wayne Caparoon Sr. was born at Bonner Springs, Kan., to George and Ida (Coop) Caparoon, Sept. 27, 1918. Jack passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at the Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Jack joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 serving on the Destroyer USS Bennion. He was discharged Oct. 26, 1945, with the rank of Seaman 1st Class SV-6.

Returning home to Kansas City, Jack joined the Kansas City Fire Department. There he rose to the rank of chief. After his retirement, Jack was hired as a fire inspector and became Chief of Fire Prevention from 1967 to 1973. Jack was also the Missouri State Fire Marshal from 1973 to 1979.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn in 2007, and son Joel in 1995.

Jack is survived by his sons, Jack Wayne Jr., of Centerville, Mo., and James Leroy, of Sheldon, Mo.; nephew, Kenneth Watts, of Downs, Kan.; niece, Mary Ann Grabau, of Independence, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graviside services will be held Saturday, March 6, at 10 a.m., at the Downs Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March, 5, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Domoney Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Downs Fire Department. Condolences may be left at www.domoneyfuneralhome.com.
