Sylvia Wedel Koehn, daughter of Arthur and Dena Schmidt Wedel, was born on Feb. 7, 1936, in Isabella, Okla. She peacefully departed this earthly life after a lingering illness at her home near Walker, Mo., on April 28, 2010, reaching the age of 74 years.

She spent her growing up years in Isabella, Okla., where she received her education. She was the middle child of 11 children. They were a close family and enjoyed singing together. At the age of 14, she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 15, 1950.

On Sept. 29, 1957, she was joined in marriage to Chester D. Koehn and he survives of the home. They enjoyed more than 52 years together. The first 10 years of their marriage were spent in Burns, Kan. In February of 1968, they moved to Walker. She loved the outdoors and working with flowers. One of the highlights of her life was the many times when all of her family could be together. She willingly helped at planting and harvest time when work needed to be done.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Chester; two daughters, Brenda Koehn and her husband Tim, Walker, and Teresa Dirks and her husband Oran, Schell City, Mo.; two sons, Marshall and his wife Letha, and Jeff and his wife Beverly, all of Walker; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Nightingale and her husband Wade, Cleo Springs, Okla., Authrene Nightingale and her husband Ernest, Fairview, Okla., and Jewell Nightingale and her husband Don, Montezuma, Kan.; three brothers, Clayton and his wife Carol, Fulton, Ky., Victor and his wife Emily, and Dale and his wife Diane, all of Isabella, Okla.; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 1, at the Living Faith Mennonite Church, Walker, with John Becker, Ron Koehn, and Robert Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Living Faith Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call now and until 4 p.m., today, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the Living Faith Mennonite Church in Walker.
