Tigers trounce Clever at home

Thursday, May 6, 2010

After a strong day at the Monett tournament on Friday, the Nevada Tigers tennis team got back into action at home with high hopes of continuing its high level of play Monday against Clever High School.

Clever struggled right from the start of the match and never really recovered as the Tigers dominated throughout the day. After seeing the Tigers cruise through most of the contest, Clever was able to pick up a win in just one of the nine varsity matches, falling by a final score of 8-1.

Dominic Habjan and Jordan McCall each made quick work of their opponents to start off the day for the Tigers, dispatching John Schupbach and Dakota House 8-3 and 8-4, respectively. Colton Hardy showed a similar performance in the No. 4 singles match, taking down Brandon Waterworth by a final score of 8-4 as well.

The No. 3 singles match was slightly closer than the first two of the day, and Clever capitalized as Dylan Potter defeated Josh Lowry 8-6. Andrew Arneson and Doug DeCocq kept the Tigers on track, however, as they were both able to finish out the day's singles competition with 8-2 victories over Brandon Hoffine and Brandon Laney.

Clever was not able to get anything going in doubles competition on the day, either, as Lowry and Arneson defeated Potter and Waterworth, 9-7, McCall and Hardy shut out Hoffine and Laney, 8-0, and Habjan and Tyler Dobson beat Schupbach and House.

The Tigers are scheduled to be in action again today as they continue their homestand against the Cardinals of Clinton at 4:30 p.m.
