Stepping into the future
Fourteen graduates marched into the Northeast Vernon County R-1 High School gym at Walker Saturday evening to receive their diplomas and attend their graduation ceremony. The welcome was given by Issac Wilkins. Gina Naas, high school counselor, presented the honor students. Sabrina Fox, as salutatorian, received the Missouri Southern State University Excellence Scholarship for $5,200. Clayton Gray, as valedictorian, received the Missouri State University Academic Scholarship for $9,000; On My Own Scholarship, $10,000; Nevada Chamber of Commerce Community Pride, $250; NEVC Community Teachers Association Scholarship, $200; Walker Alumni Scholarship, $300; Missouri State University Leadership Scholarship, $4,000; Cavener's Office Supply Scholarship, $150; The John Bryon Corbin Charitable Trust Scholarship, $6,000; The Everett and Bertha Periman Grant, $3,000; Child Advocacy Scholarship, $2,000; VFW 2175 Scholarship, $500; and the James A. Lewis Memorial Scholarship, $1,000. Gray's scholarships totaled $36,400. Other scholarship recipients were Coreen McCubbin, Schell City Alumni Scholarship, $410; Nolan Rapp, MFA Foundation Scholarship, Walker MFA, $2,000 and Missouri Corn Scholarship, $750; Terri Scougal, City Pointe Beauty Academy Academic Scholarship, $3,250; Krystle Vantellman, Crowder College Superintendent Scholarship, $2,800; Isaac Wilkins, Fort Scott Community College Charles Bennett Memorial Scholarship, $1,200.
