It is official. Annette Crews is now the Nevada City Clerk and Julie Lewis is the city's manager's executive assistant.

During a special meeting Friday afternoon the Nevada City Council voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a general ordinance to allow the city clerk to live outside the city limits, with the unanimous consent of the city council.

The council also voted 5-0 to approve the transfer of Annette Crews to the position of city clerk and Julie Lewis, the current clerk, to the city manager's executive assistant.

City Manager JD Kehrman, said that he will meet with Crews and Lewis Monday morning to work out the details of the changes.

Kehrman said that if the ordinance changing the residency requirement does not receive final council approval, the council will have to address the residency requirement with Crews. He said that the city council has hired other people, like city treasurers and city managers, who did not meet the residency requirements at the time they were employed.

Crews has worked for the city for 16 years and has served as interim city clerk in the past, as well as other administrative roles.

According to a press release from the city she is a certified municipal clerk, a Missouri registered clerk and currently serves as the chairperson of the education committee of the Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association.

Julie Lewis has a solid business background that includes experience in customer and employee relations, business communications, and administrative functions.

In her new role Lewis will focus on "customer service assurance through audits of various department operations and bring special emphasis to public relations."

She will also work on the "development and implementation of various community enhancement initiatives aimed at improving the city's relationship with residents, local businesses, institutions and organizations.

While city clerk, Lewis established the city's newsletter to help inform residents of the city's activities.
