Bushwhacker Days begins

The 2010 Bushwhacker Days celebration began Wednesday, with opening ceremonies that included recognition of flags, a proclamation and dedication, flag retirement ceremony, barbecue, ice cream social and more. Tomorrow, see Local Legends on the Square at 7 p.m.

Bailey Jones plays the national anthem for the third consecutive year during the 2010 Bushwhacker Days opening ceremonies Wednesday evening.

Too bad they moved it to the same weekend as Boomtown Days.

Growing up in Nevada one the years highlights was Bushwacker Days. Up on the square hanging with our friends and family. Work doesn't allow me to make it home for this event but it is so nice to know it is going on. Nothing like life in a small town and as far as I can tell Nevada is the best smalltown and the best place one could grow up. I may not live there but as my signin say I to this day am just a (smalltowngirlindallas). Enjoy everyone, just wish I was home to enjoy it with you. Way to Go NEVADA you ROCK

I'm gonna miss it too. But walking that far is difficult and no way I can carry a chair. I realize they did away with the seating to save money, but it makes it hard on us old people.

Yea they had problems with the hay bales?

I believe they had trouble getting bales donated, getting crews to go pick them up, having people available to put them out around the square, and a crew to pick them up to haul them away the night after the last event. If you know of volunteers who would do that again, please let Frank and Pat Arnold know. That is a big effort to undertake, given everything else that is going on for an all-volunteer event like Bushwhacker. More volunteers would allow them to enhance BWD. They are probably already planning for next year.
