Lloyd Russell Murray, age 92, a resident of the Life Care Center of Wichita, Kan., died Thursday, June 17, 2010. He was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Richards, Mo., the son of Lloyd Raymond and Martha Alice Sheperd Murray.

He attended Fort Scott schools and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1935. He attended one year of Fort Scott Junior College and left to make money as a full-time motion picture operator.

On June 15, 1938, he married Florene Annabelle King. She preceded him in death after 49 years of marriage. Russell worked as a projectionist for several years before they moved to Wichita, where he worked both as a motion picture operator and a machinist for Boeing. After the war ended, Russell was laid off from Boeing and moved back to Fort Scott. He worked for Parsons Truck Line, Jung Bread Co., and was a night watchman for the city of Fort Scott. In 1950, he returned to Wichita and Boeing. He retired in 1983. Russell was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Wichita. He was also a Perpetual Life Member of the Sunflower Lodge as 32-degree Mason and a member of the Midian Shriners of Wichita, Kan. He drove the medical van for many years to St. Louis to the Children's Hospital.

On Feb. 1, 1992, he married Ellen Wadsack of Wichita. He is survived by Ellen of her home and her two sons. He is proceeded in death by his parents. One brother Morse Eugene Murray, a sister Alice Ruth Clyburn. Survivors include his daughter Martha Tharp and her husband Owen of Enid, Okla., granddaughters Brenda and her husband Mike Stover of Wichita, Kan., Karen and her husband Russell Bowling of Douglas, Okla.; a grandson Larry and her husband Michelle Tharp of Alva, Okla., and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 21, at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, Kan. Memorial to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.
