Fair food drive to benefit Community Outreach

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

As a 4-H Leadership project, 12-year-old Hanna Miller will be leading the food drive for Community Outreach at the Vernon County Youth Fair. Because of the tough economic times many are in need of assistance in the area.

For the past two years. the food drive has been a competition between clubs, but that's not the case this year, so everyone in the community can get involved. This is a chance for each exhibitor to enhance their leadership skills by donating.

The average weight of a beef steer at the youth fair is about 1,200 pounds; so that is the number of pounds of food Hanna hopes to collect. Everyone in the community is encouraged to take part in this worthwhile project.

All non-perishable food items may be placed in the Home Economics building at the fairgrounds, Tuesday, July 5, until noon Saturday, July 10. Boxes will be provided for the food in a special area.

All food will be taken to Community Outreach following the fair.
