Political signs tell tale of divided community

The Northeast Vernon County school district's latest attempt at funding a new school the district hopes to build near Harwood, has been a heated issue, and patrons are polarized in their opinions on the issue. Signs aimed at encouraging voters to cast ballots for or against the measure, a 99-cent tax levy, dot the countryside in the NEVC district; some of the signs can even be found outside the district. The district's last attempt to fund the new school was defeated in April, ironically with a tied vote, 417-417. A four-sevenths majority was required for passage.
