KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three youth were chosen for their involvement in the Hereford industry on the local and national level at the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Indianapolis July 9.

Each year the National Hereford Women and the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) sponsor the Prospect Awards for kids third through fifth grade. Winners are selected from each grade represented based on a written application.

The Junior Prospect Award winners are: third grade -- Lauren McMillan, Ohio, Ill.; fourth grade -- Kate Mead, Concord, Ark.; fifth grade -- Justin Hurst, Nevada, Mo.

Each Prospect Award winner receives a picture plaque.

Justin Hurst, 11, is a four-year member of the NJHA and the Missouri Junior Hereford Association (MJHA). Justin has participated in showmanship at four JNHEs and participated in the national judging contest the past two years. He has won outstanding junior member of the MJHA three times. Justin says he joined the NJHA to learn more about Hereford cattle. For more information about the NJHA, visit www.jrhereford.org.
