Lela Katherine Cox, 89, Nevada, Mo., passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Mercy Health System, Fort Scott, Kan. following a lengthy illness. She was born April 27, 1921, in Dederick, Mo. to Samuel Chester Arnold and Marrissa Frances Barnett Arnold. She was married June 11, 1939, in Nevada, Mo. to Robert Orace Cox Sr., and he preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1999.

Mrs. Cox was born and raised in Vernon County and spent all of her life here. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1939, and worked for many years at the Nevada State Hospital in Nevada until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Nevada Church of Christ, and a former member of the Sweet Adelines here in Nevada.

Survivors include one son, Robert O. Cox, Nevada; two daughters, Kathy Cox and Frances Cox, Both of Nevada; three grandchildren, Max Wagner and his wife Donna, Nevada, Tony Wagner, Fort Scott, and Tina Overton, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse and one grandchild, Cliff Wagner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 6, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Felix Salazar officiating.

Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, between 10 and 11 a.m., prior to the funeral service.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Deerfield Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
