NEVC baseball defeats Lakeland

WALKER, Mo. -- The Northeast Vernon County High School Knights got the 2010 baseball season under way Monday with a strong victory over the Vikings of Lakeland High School.

Junior Grant Davis got the start on the mound for the Knights and went the distance, striking out 13 Vikings and walking four on his way to a 6-1 victory. The Vikings got on the board first with a run in the top of the opening frame, but the Knights wasted little time taking the lead for good with three runs in the home half of the frame and held on to take the victory.

With the win, the Knights got the season off to a 1-0 start and will be back in action on Sept. 3, when they host Bronaugh.
