Lady Tigers softball postponed

The Nevada Lady Tigers softball team got its attempt to extend its season-opening win streak to nine games off with a bang Thursday. But not quite the kind of bang head coach Tammy Holcomb hoped for.

Following a 15-0 drubbing of Seneca in just three innings Tuesday, Holcomb and her squad had high hopes of keeping the momentum and the offense going Thursday as they hosted the Lady Tigers of Lamar. The Lady Tigers of Lamar had similar plans coming into the night as they had high hopes of extending their undefeated streak to three games. Mother Nature had other ideas, however, as severe thunderstorms threatened to put a stop to the contest before it ever even began.

The two squads were able to get play under way, but only made it into the fourth inning before umpires stopped play and cleared the field with two out in the top half of the frame due to lightning in close proximity to Bushwhacker Field. After several minutes, Nevada High School officials, as well as coaches from both sides and the two-man umpiring crew officially called off the game.

No official decision had been made as of Thursday evening when the game would be made up, but officials on both sides do intend to resume the game where it left off in the top of the fourth inning. A make-up date will be reported in a future issue of the Daily Mail as soon as that information becomes available.
