Kathleen Eakins Robinson, 97, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at Masonic Home of Shelbyville, Ky.

A native of Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Sarah Hudson Eakins and the widow of Chester L. Robinson. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a founder of the Prayer Ministry and active in Young at Heart in which she helped start a dulcimer group. She was instrumental in developing the literacy program in Shelby County, using the Laubach method teaching adults to read.

Mrs. Robinson began her working career with Southern Bell as a switchboard operator, retiring from South Central Bell as a manager. She was also an active member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers. Upon her retirement, she was co-owner and operator of the Keepsake Shop for 15 years. Her memberships also included the AL Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Survivors include her two daughters, Joan R. White, and her husband, Roy T. White, of Shelbyville,Ky., and Dr. Judy R. Rogers, and her husband, Dr. Glenn C. Rogers, of Nevada; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday at First Baptist Church of Shelbyville with Dr. Stephen C. Rice officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m., Thursday, at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home.
