Lady Tiger softball winning streak continues

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Two streaks were on the line in a game that took 337 hours to complete. One was the Lady Tigers' winning streak of 15 games; the other was the losing streak to McDonald County, which started in 2001. Tuesday's game was the continuation of a weather-interrupted game against McDonald County; and in it, the Lady Tigers were able to take care of one of their personal El Guapos. A two-out double by Casey Barker scored Jessica Neely with a run in the sixth and another two-out hit by Olivia Culbertson scored Nikki O'Bryan, who had muscled up a triple one out earlier. Christian Novak had 8 strikeouts and allowed 3 hits in posting a Nevada record ninth shutout. Outstanding defensive plays by Tiffani Long at short and Makenzie Pritchett helped keep the Mustangs at bay. The Lady Tigers are now 16-0.

Tuesday's game carried on momentum from the Lady Tigers' 15th win on Monday, when Jessica Neely's 3-run home run in the first and Olivia Culbert son's grand slam in the second gave the Lady Tigers all the offense they needed. Neely's homer was her seventh of the season and cleared the left field scoreboard, landing on the street. Culbertson's blast was to center field and was another no-doubter. It was her second, and the 14th home run for the Lady Tigers this season. Christian Novak recorded her eighth shut-out in Monday's game, striking out 13 and allowing two infield singles.
