Events finalized for NHS All-School Reunion

Saturday, October 9, 2010

The 2010 Nevada High School All-School Reunion will be held Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16. Events are finalized and many NHS alumni are excited and looking forward to the upcoming two-day celebration, organizers said.

The festivities will begin at noon on Friday at the recently remodeled Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center. It's there that reunion participants must go to complete their on-site registration, sign in at the decade tables with local contact information, and receive their name badges and official Reunion 2010 program. These badges will serve as their admission for all other purchased events such as the decade reunions, all-classes dinner and dances. On-site registration will run until 6 p.m.

That afternoon, after registration, participants are encouraged to stop by the Bushwhacker Museum to view the Smithsonian Museum exhibit, "New Harmony, American Roots Music"; walk through Jim Novak's baseball museum in the old Thornton Bank building; or tour the remodeled Fox Playhouse, formerly the Fox Theater.

Friday evening kicks off with an indoor tailgate party in the high school commons area where pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies and beverages will be available prior to the actual kickoff at Logan Field at 7 o'clock. The Nevada Tigers will be defending their gridiron from the Pleasant Hill Roosters.

The official welcoming of NHS alumni will be held prior to the varsity football contest.

Later that night, beginning at 8:30, the Breakaway Band will be featuring music from the '60s, '70s and '80s at the Nevada Eagles Lodge. The dance will run until midnight. During that same time period, DJs with Platinum Entertainment will be spinning requests for dancers at the Nevada Elks Lodge.

Saturday morning begins with registration at 9. Registration has been moved from the community center to the high school. This will allow organizers to coordinate events in one location for Saturday morning. New for this year's reunion is the Retired Teachers' Reception, to be held in the high school commons between 10 a.m. and noon; refreshments will be served. Tours of the school facility and sales of old Nevamos and other memorabilia will also be available during that time.

The afternoon has been dedicated to Decade Mini-Reunions. Designated sites for these get-togethers are: Iguana Azul for the '40s and '50s; Nevada Eagles for the '60s, '70s, and '80s; and Nevada Elks for the '90s and 2000s. These parties allow alumni a chance to visit with friends from both in front of and behind their graduating class. These mini-reunions will run from 2 to 5 p.m.

Saturday evening festivities will begin at 6 p.m., with the All-Classes Box Dinner, catered by the famous White Grill. The meal will feature barbecued brisket and pork, two side dishes and a roll. The dinner will run until 8 and is available only with tickets purchased in advance. The NHS commons area will once again serve as the dining location.

Beginning at 8 and running until midnight, dancers will be delighted by the big band sounds of Caduceus-The Doctors Band. This 18 piece group is celebrating 20 years of playing together and will be performing at the Nevada Eagles Lodge. Nevada alum Music Man David Bagley will be providing musical entertainment during the same time frame at the Nevada Elks Lodge.

All NHS alumni, parents of an alumni or anyone who has had a past association with the school and plans to attend the reunion, is reminded that Monday, Oct. 11, is the last day to register in order to attend the pre-football game tailgate party or the all-classes box dinner. Online and walk-in registration for all other reunion events is set to close on Thursday, Oct. 14.

Registration can be completed at the Nevada Vernon County Chamber of Commerce office or on-line at www.NHSreunions.com.

Telephone inquiries can be made by calling (417) 448-0360 or (417) 667-5300.

A $25 registration payment is required for each individual attending the decade reunions and dances. The Retired Teachers' Reception and high school tours do not require registration payment.
