Armaine W. Bjerk, 89, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following an illness of several weeks.

He was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Maynard W. Bjerk and Minnie Hazeltine Baile Bjerk. He married Betty Ann Malcom on Nov. 29, 1983, in St. Paul, Minn., and she preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 1998.

Armaine was born in North Dakota, but was raised in Minnesota. He pastored for a time and later taught high school English in Hibbing, Minn. It was there he inspired musician Bob Dylan to pursue his music and writing career in California. Following his time as a teacher, he traveled to most of the states in the Union selling jewelry and preaching the gospel. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Nevada.

Armaine is survived by two nieces, Martha Schmidt, Bemidji, Minn., and Judith Day, Florida; and one nephew, Fred Kraemer. He was preceded in death by one sister, Violet King.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Robert Chastain officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
