City leaf pick-up begins this week

The city of Nevada Public Works Department began its annual leaf pick-up service on Monday, and plans to continue the effort throughout the city. Twigs, bagged leaves or limbs will not be accepted. Please have the leaves raked behind the curb and not in the street.

The compost site located at 702 S. Jefferson is also available to all city residents to dispose of waste items including tree limbs, grass clippings and un-bagged leaves.

Hours of operation for the compost site are every weekday, excluding holidays, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and the first and third Saturdays of each month, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The city of Nevada's Public Works Department employees will make another round to pick up the leaves sometime around the end of December first of January, weather permitting.

Leaf pickup began in the Southwest quarter then moving on to the Northwest, Northeast quarters of the city, ending with the southeast quarter.

I agree with Terry, You can bet the new company running public works won't be doing this for free. I'm sure they will be happy to for $50.00 per person.

when did the city need to operate at a profit, and why do this people in charge always go outside to hire individuals to run the city, watch what happens if they get rid of the public works dept. this city manager will leave before the full extent of his damage is apparent but he will crow about how much money he saved in his last position. So now we are going to outsource our local gov. jobs, what happens to all the individuals that worked for the city? they just to bend over and take it, or will they be rehired for less money and no benefits? that way when they have to go to the hospital they go to the emergency room and then don.t pay. If this happens it is a losing proposition fo rht ecity.

The city does not have to do this at all; I am thankful that they do. Folks act like we are entitled to have the city come pick up leaves and limbs off our personal property, but we aren't. I am appreciative of this service, as many communities do not offer anything like this.

I expect snow removal to be less or nonexistant, too. And the recycling center will more than likely close. They will do away with services that they decide we don't need.

Up to last night I thought the goal was for aliance to aquire the publicworks dept. I now believe that their goal is to aquire the drinking water treatment plant and the waiste water plant. public works is just something to get us all upset. The real goal is the water. Did you know that the bush family has bought up loads of land in south america? know whats under that land? the largest water aquafer in south america. Some billionair in texas nameed T boon pickens is buying up land right and left. All for the water under it. He says he will make billions selling the water. Nestle company in Mich. is sucking up water out of the great lakes and making millions off of it. Water is now called Blue gold. Do you know we pay more for a gallon jug of water than we do for gas? go to walmart and check for yourself. I could go on but will let you do the research yourselves. Call me nuts but you owe it to yourself to at least google "down side of privatization of water supply" Mayor Novak you should look at this before you vote to give our water to a private corporation.

The aquafier we use is already shrinking dramatically anyway. We certainly don't need more problems.

I completely agree with howitzer on this one! and as for endersgame, love your name, i love that book, and all the others, i was gonna make my username xenocide because thats what i use on other sites but went with the green lantern's oath.
