Damon pleads not guilty to assault charges

Myron R. Damon, a candidate in the upcoming election for the Nevada City Council was arraigned in the Associate Circuit Court of Vernon County on Monday Dec. 6 on two charges of class A misdemeanor assault in the third degree, according to court documents.

The charges stem from an incident that took place on Nov. 19, at a residence located at 311 E. Central St., in Nevada. While seated in his vehicle at the residence, Damon argued with the tenants of the dwelling and according to count one of the court documents is alleged to have struck the victim, Michael Sutcliff, "in the face with a closed fist causing bruising and swelling to the left side of his face."

The probable cause statement states that Damon "then placed his vehicle in reverse, while the arm of the victim was still inside his vehicle and backed the vehicle up, dragging the victim on the ground."

The victim was later treated by Vernon County Ambulance District personnel. Damon was arrested and posted a bond of $1,000 on Dec. 1. During the arraignment held Monday, Damon was read the charges against him and advised of his rights.

Damon pleaded not guilty to both counts and a pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 3, 2011. Damon has applied for the services of a public defender.

On Thursday, Oct. 21, Damon filed for the April 5 city council election, hoping to win one of the two open seats.

If you knew Mike Sutcliffe, you would know how lame this Damon character is. Takes a big man to hit a guy like Mike. I wonder if he's that big a man when it comes to people without Mikes' condition. What a punk.

What kind of a Rev. would physically assault someone? I thought that the bible tells us to be gentle and kind like Jesus?

I don't know either one, but why would the other man's arm be thru Rev. Damon's window unless he was trying to assault the Rev.?

The article states that his arm was in the vehicle after he was struck...if someone struck me, I might react by trying to get my hands on him also. And a Reverend? Hmmm...

Mike was probably just leaning in the vehicle to talk, he's hard of hearing too and this Rev? Hit him and then was backing up while Mike's arm was stuck in the car.

I wonder if people should request a police presence to stand by at the meetings. If this Rev? gets angry towards a disabled person with a heart condition who knows how he might react to some of the heated disagreements at the city council meetings? Hope he doesn't carry a Gun?!!

If nothing else it will make for a great show. I for one will not convict the man before he is given his day in court.
