February: Community responds to Haitian disaster; center reopens

February was a month of blistering cold, play performances and members of the community uniting to help those in need. With the Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake in Haiti still fresh in people's minds worldwide, local churches rallied together to collect health kits to donate for relief in the aftermath of the natural disaster. St. Paul Lutheran Church and the United Methodist Church, both in Nevada, joined efforts with the United Methodist Committee on Relief Depot of Baldwin, La., to help send somewhere in the ballpark of 100,000 health kits to Haiti on Feb. 8.
