Charles Eugene Johnson, 66, a former resident of Fort Scott, and more recently of Sarcoxie, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. He was born Sept. 26, 1944, at Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Earl L. Johnson and Lillie Maxine Tucker Johnson. Charles married Lavina "Sis" Metcalf. They were later divorced. He later married Myra Rose Bryant. Charles had served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later served with the National Guard. He had worked for 19 years at Bill's Truck and Tire in Sarcoxie, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, Rose, of the home in Sarcoxie; two sons, Casey Johnson, Fort Scott, Kan., and Tracy Johnson, Nevada, Mo. Also surviving are a brother, Earl Johnson Jr., El Dorado Springs, Mo.; three sisters, Pat Love and Debbie Allen, both of Fort Scott, Kan., and Bertha Long, Brighton, Colo.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Kenneth Charles, Reagan, Garrett and Baylee Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Johnson.

The Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
