Earl Jay Bailey, 88, Nevada, died Monday, April 18, 2010, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada. He was born Jan. 4, 1923, in St. Catherine, Mo., to Joseph Allen Bailey and Nora Bailey. He was married in 1939 to Alta Ellen Carmack and she died in 1983. He then married Irish Lena Griffin Oct. 31, 1983, in Miami, Okla., and she preceded him in death April 19, 2009.

Earl grew up in St. Catherine and Brookfield, Mo., and went to school there. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater of War. Following the service, he lived in California for a short time before returning to Kansas City, Mo. He went to work for Yellow Freight Trucking Company in 1951 and worked for 30 years until his retirement on his 57th birthday. Following his marriage to Irish, they settled in Schell City, Mo., for seven years before moving to Nevada in the mid 1990s. He was a member of the Osage Masonic Lodge No. 303 and received his 50-year certificate in 2010. He was also a 30-year member of the Teamster's Union.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Bailey, Independence, Mo., and Terry Bailey, Smithville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; both spouses; one son, Phillip Bailey; four brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 21, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with George Yarn officiating. Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
