Viewers will see double at this year's Wax Museum

Thursday, May 5, 2011

The Wax Museum, a longtime tradition at Nevada Middle School that has been going strong for 26 years, and this time, students in Accelerated English, science and social studies are taking a look at some of the memorable duos in history.

The students have researched a total of 38 personalities, including musicians, historical icons, scientists and television personalities, and have written research papers about the lives of those people. In addition, each student will give an oral presentation complete with costumes and props. The final product of this project is the actual display. Each student will portray his or her assigned character and become a "wax" figure. The character will "come alive" and give a short narrative about the notable person. Wax figures will be as realistic as possible, and students have scoured attics and flea markets for props and costumes.

The Wax Museum will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May 9 and 10, during the day for other middle school students to tour the displays. In addition, the students will host an evening performance for parents and the public on Tuesday, May 10, at 6 o'clock. It is suggested that everyone attending the public performance be seated by 5:50 p.m., so there will be no disruption during the evening display. Teachers involved are Angie Landoll, accelerated science; Amy Smith, accelerated English; Erin McCullough, accelerated social studies; and Amy Hertzberg, library media specialist.
