Lois Mae Cooper, 87, Nevada, Mo., passed away at Christian Healthcare in Nevada and went home to Jesus on Thursday, May 5, 2011. She was born May 1, 1924, in Rinehart, Mo., to Andrew Jackson Houston and Ida May Snelling Houston. She married William "Jay" Cooper on April 6, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan., and he preceded her in death on July 17, 2005.

Lois was a graduate from Richards High School in 1942. She was a lifelong resident of Richards. She helped her husband on the family farm for many years until their retirement. She loved to square dance in the Nevada area. Lois was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Fort Scott, Kan.

Survivors include three children, Donald Cooper and his wife, Linda, Daniel Cooper and his wife, Shorty, and Marie Morrell, all of Richards, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne Houston and his wife, Lois, Richards, Mo.; several friends, family and her church family of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Willard; and one grandson, Jerald Dean Cooper.

Come celebrate the life of Lois Mae Cooper at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Rodrick Hillhouse officiating. Interment will follow in Richland Cemetery, Richards, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 7-8 p.m., Friday, May 6, at the funeral home.
