James Harvey Fields, 81, resident of Bronaugh, Mo., died Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Moore--Few Care Center, Nevada. He was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Cowgill, Mo., the son of James Henry and Pearl Easter Sprague Fields. He worked as a machinist and heavy equipment operator for Coors brewery. James loved raising cattle as well as gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Fields, Nevada; two sisters, Norma Gene Michael and Edna F. Payne, both of Galesburg, Ill.; best friends, Bill McNeil and Terry Laudermilk; his dog, Trigger; as well as several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Woody and Frankie Fields; two sisters, Mary Ruth Myers and Marjorie Darlene Kostelny; as well as his parents.

V.F.W. Chaplain James Stradley will conduct graveside services at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 14, at the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott. Memorials are suggested to the V.F.W. Service Families and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
