Vendors gather for farmers' market despite heat

Despite the stifling heat Wednesday, when the afternoon temperature reached 101 degrees, a handful of vendors gathered for the Vernon County Farmers' Market, offering produce and other items for sale.

The Farmers' Market is open every Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m.; and each Saturday, at 8 a.m. The Farmers' Market will continue through early fall.

The National Weather Service predicts that the area will continue to feel the heat -- temperatures are expected to reach the century mark every day through Saturday. The next chance of rain is Sunday.

Meanwhile, an excessive heat warning is in effect, and public safety officials urge residents to spend at least part of the day in air conditioning, drink plenty of fluids, dress in loose, light clothing and never leave children. adults or pets in hot cars.
