Velma Mildred Phillips, 83, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at her home in Nevada. She was born March 26, 1928, in Nevada, to Harry McClure Jenkins and Laura Belle Young Jenkins. She married William D. "Bert" Phillips on Oct. 27, 1946, in Arizona. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1994.

Velma grew up in Vernon County and moved to California during the Great Depression. She returned to Nevada in 1968, and has lived here the remainder of her life. Velma worked in the kitchen at the Nevada City Hospital, retiring from there in the late 1990s.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Ford and her husband, Jack, Springfield, Mo.; one granddaughter, Erin Diegmann and her husband, Eric, Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Matheney, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Welch and Margaret Kellerhals; and two brothers, Cecil Jenkins and Raymond Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 28, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, at the funeral home.
