Ruby Ellen Kennedy, 91, Nevada, died Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Medicalodge in Fort Scott, Kan., following a brief illness. She was born May 8, 1920, in Dederick, Mo., to David Leroy Scott and Selma Imogene Jackson Scott. She was married May 15, 1937, in Nevada, to Lester Vernon Kennedy, and he preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1992.

Mrs. Kennedy was born in Vernon County and spent her whole life here. She was a homemaker and a farm wife, helping her husband tirelessly on the farm. She loved her family very much and that love was returned in full. She was an avid reader and liked to travel.

Survivors include one son, Scott Kennedy and his wife, Belinda, Deerfield, Mo.; one daughter, Donnis Moore and her husband, Gary, Fair Grove, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Irene Kennedy, Fort Scott, Kan.; five grandchildren, Christy Stevens, Springfield, Mo., Linda Lawrence, Fort Scott, Kan., Cheryl Combs, Republic, Mo., Mathew Kennedy and Rachel Kennedy, both of Deerfield, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lanelle Cameron and Lola Fern Mann, both of Springfield, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; one son, Duane Kennedy; and one grandchild, Denny Simmons.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Rick Womack officiating. Interment will follow at El Dorado Springs City Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, Mo.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family received friends at the funeral home Monday, Aug. 1, between 7 and 8 p.m.
