Citizens raise taxation concerns

Saturday, August 27, 2011

About 30 concerned citizens filled the Bourbon County Commissioners' room during their Friday morning meeting to express concerns regarding delinquent taxes. Allegations were made against Bourbon County Treasurer Susan Quick claiming she may owe back taxes but did not place herself on the list of delinquent taxes. Questions also were raised about the frequency of tax sales and why some properties are held off the tax sale while others remain on it. One of the major concerns raised was an allegation relating to interest from payment plans. In 2010, more than $1 million in taxes have not been collected, citizens claimed. The commissioners expressed their concern about the situation and commissioner Harold Coleman guaranteed the citizens that the issues would be looked into.
