Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited host youth event

Bruce Rogers (left) and Adam Dean hold the Remington Versa Max 12 gauge shotgun that is being given away in a drawing by the National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited as part of the JAKES and Greenwing event at the Elks Lake, north of Compton Junction, on Saturday, Sept. 24. The event is free and will be held rain or shine. Registration begins at 9 a.m., Saturday. Boys and girls 6-17 years of age will learn about decoy placement, bird identification, dog handling, turkey and duck calling, archery and black powder shooting. Participants will get to shoot bows and arrows, pellet and BB guns and learn to pattern a shotgun. Every child attending will receive a free membership in NWTF and DU and all necesssary equipment and lunch will be provided. A parent or guardian is required to attend and all events will be supervised.
