Neva June Woods

Neva June Woods, 65, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at her home. She was born on June 6, 1946, on a farm south of Nevada, the youngest child of Ralph Everett and Lily Flemming Woods.

An avid reader with a love of learning, June majored in history and political science in her two years at College of the Ozarks, Point Outlook, Mo. She graduated from Missouri State University, Springfield, with bachelors' degrees in those two subjects and a minor in social work. Returning home, she began a career at Nevada State Hospital No. 3 that lasted 32 years. Following her retirement, June found her dream job at the Blanche Skiff Ross Memorial Library at Cottey College, retiring in 2008.

Survivors include her brother, Dale E. Woods; her sister, Carol A. Barker; five nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and nephews. She treasured her nieces and nephews and was an important part of their lives. She is also survived by her much loved cats, Missi and Patches. June was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ralph L. Woods; and one sister, Norma R. Woods.

At her request there will be no services. A celebration of life will be held at her home, 500 N. Webster, Nevada, on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 2-5 p.m. Family and friends are welcome.
