St. Louis ballet to perform at Cottey Oct. 6

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

The Saint Louis Ballet is delighted to return to Cottey College with the program which was the most popular among ballet enthusiasts for the past 2010-'11 season. The St. Louis Ballet will perform on Thursday, Oct 6, at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts.

Christopher d'Amboise, choreographer of "Tribute," has created more than 60 ballets for companies in more than 20 countries, including England, France, Belgium, and Portugal. He originally created "Tribute" for the New York City Ballet in 2008. The program also includes "Allegro Brilliante" choreography by George Balanchine, founder of New York City Ballet, as well as artistic director Gen Horiuchi's "Elliptique" with commissioned music by acclaimed composer Joe Morra.

Saint Louis Ballet's level of artistry has grown tremendously since the appointment of Gen Horiuchi, former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet, as artistic director in 2001.

His international reputation has led major choreographers to present their work on the company. Its repertory includes the works by George Balanchine as well as the full-length ballets such as "Swan Lake," "Sleeping Beauty," "Cinderella," and "Romeo and Juliet."

Tickets for the St. Louis Ballet are $8 for adults and $6 for those under age 18 or over age 62. This event is anticipated to sell out, so those who wish to attend are encouraged to reserve tickets with the Cottey Ticket Office by calling (417) 667-8181, ext. 2186.

The Center for the Arts is on the northeast corner of Austin and Tower streets in Nevada.

Financial assistance for the St. Louis Ballet has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
