William E. Smith, 81, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at his home in Nevada. He was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Lathrop, Mo., to James Elbert Smith and Lucy Lucille Hisel Smith. He married Ida Belle Simpson on May 31, 1958, in Miami, Okla., and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2004.

Bill was a 1947 graduate of Nevada High School. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Panama during the Korean Conflict. Bill worked at Key Industries, Fram Corporation and drove the O.A.T.S. bus for several years until his retirement. He was a member of the Community Christian Church and the American Legion Post No. 2 of Nevada. Bill was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved nature.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Ann Headrick and her husband, Gary, Nevada; three grandchildren, Amy Bishop and her husband, Bo, Nevada, Blair Hirschman and her husband, Shane, Nevada, and Cole Headrick, Columbia, Mo.; one great-granddaughter, Garrity Bishop; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his "Dear Friend" Nelda McAdoo, Nevada. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one half-brother, Orville Bradley, and one half-sister, Maxine Long.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home.
