Tigers fifth at CJ wrestling tourney

CARL JUNCTION-- Led by individual titles from Tanner Charles and Zach Shepherd, the Nevada High School wrestling team finished fifth in the team standings at the Carl Junction Classic on Saturday.

Charles took first place in the 16-pound bracket, topping River Maggard of Carthage in the title match by technical fall, 21-4.

Shepherd won the title at 145, beating Monett's Dominic Witherow in the title bout.

Nevada's Slade Stiles finished third at 120 and Johnathon Ireland was fourth at 132. Kyle Bennett finished fourth at 138, Bradey Denney was fourth at 152, and Brent Baughn was fourth at 220.

Willard won the team title, with Carthage second, Monett third and Carl Junction fourth. After Nevada, Diamond was sixth, Webb City was seventh, followed by Cherryvale, Labette County and Seneca.

Nevada travels to Adrian tonight at 6 p.m.
